Reflective essay 3

Cultural diversity is the cultural variety and cultural differences that exist in the world, a society, or an institution. There are multiple types of cultural diversity which are stereotype, prejudice, and discrimination. In this essay I am going to compare these types of cultures toward my own experience and culture.

The first type is stereotyping is a belief in an image or distorted truth about a person or group. For an example, in my culture Muslims and Israelis are known to be enemies because of our different beliefs and religions. Moreover, what we call a "Red eye" which is when someone likes something and not saying the word "Mashalla" something atrocious might happen to the person or thing that he like.

Furthermore, prejudice is an opinion, prejudgment or attitude about a group or individual members. For an example, people in my age call friends or cousins that don't move a lot or lazy “Sudanese" because Sudanese people usually are known to be lazy. Second example of prejudice is appropriate for boy and girl teenagers to walk and go out together in public places because of the rumors.

In addition, discrimination is the behavior that treats people unequally because of their group memberships. As an example, Arab’s have less respect for the drivers and maids because of the fact that the work for them. Also Arab’s tend to judge people toward having luxurious stuff or cheap stuff, and most importantly last names.

In conclusion, in my opinion, I think learning these cultures will help me in how to treat people in a respectful way and to admiration nationalities because we are all humans and there is no difference between us, we have to be more open minded in our social life.

Thoughts and comments of the video

The video is about an English teacher thinks that he has the ability to teach English language to a multicultural class , and my comment on the video that in the class there was racism between some of them for example the Chines and the Japanese men was because of the political issues, and sexism was the French woman and the Greek and Spanish men when they wanted to sit next to her.

Culture and Personality in Anthropology

Read the section about Culture and Personality in Anthropology. Answer these questions about that section:
1.       - Define “Anthropology” in your own words: Study of human behavior from the point view of cultural Diversity.
2.       Define “movement” in this context: area of study.
3.       What do you understand by “socialization of children” Give an example:
all humans are the same when born, but childrearing in different societies causes deviations in behavior and personalities from each other, for example feeding, talking, and toilet training.
4.       Read this sentence again and give examples of childrearing in different societies and cultures: “socialization creates personality patterns. It helps shape peoples emotions, thoughts, behaviors, cultural values and norms to fit into and function as productive members in the surrounding human society. The study of culture and personality demonstrates that different socialization practices such as childrearing in different societies (cultures) result in different personality types.”
-          “Children should be seen and not heard”.
-          “Spare the rod and spoil the child”.
-          If you don’t punish him, he will be spoilt or badly behaved.
And that is the same in UAE, also depending on how the parents treat their children.
5.       Read this sentence again and say to what extent you agree: “all humans are the same when born, but childrearing in different societies causes deviations in behavior and personalities from each other.”
-  I agree to all of this sentence, because our profit Mohamed said that human born with “ Fitra “ and their mother and father make him or her as they are.
6.       Reflect on the reading above. Can you see a link between your culture and your personality? Think about that in relation to your own culture first, and then think about personality and culture in a different society. Reflect. Give examples.
Yes, i can see there is a link between the culture and my personality because in our culture there is a similarity in treatments when the parents treat their childern. In other societies some personalities cannot be the same because it depends on the culture of their country and how they treated for example how the mothers feed their childern and when the father get mad when they've done somthing wrong by talking to them or beatin in a bad way.
